Did you know there is one system in your body that is the master control system of the rest of your body? Yes, that’s right – a system that controls what your body does with all those expensive supplements you take and reacts and adapts to all the therapies your kiddo is receiving.
This is the very often forgotten system that really needs to be first in line when we are talking about health but more importantly to you right now..this is the system that must be discussed and assessed first when putting together a healing plan for your child and you child’s neurological development (or brain development!). This is of course your nervous system and this is a complex and commonly overlooked and oversimplified in terms of importance when creating a plan for growth and processing in children with challenges.
Be it chronic health problems like, constipation, eczema, food intolerances or immune system weakness or developmental or behavioral challenges such as hyperactivity, sensory processing disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder or learning challenges, this system, must be checked to see if it working efficiently or if there are indicators of interference creating abnormalities in the way this system is working. That’s why it is called “The Master Control System”.
Before we start adding things to the body or doing activities to stimulate new growth in the pathways of the brain we must first make sure the nervous system is in a state of health and typical function. This will allow us to assimilate information and nutrients and receive the most benefit from all other interventions or protocols.
A very important and very misunderstood action step to begin the process of assessing the health of this system is have a screening by a neurologically based chiropractor. This practitioner is one who utilizes objective measures and testing to determine if the spinal column (the bones that make up your spine that are there to protect your spinal cord) is in a healthy position. If structural shifting has occurred, it has the potential to be create stress inside the nervous system itself. This condition is called a subluxation or a Neuro-Structural shift. Essentially, this type of condition has the potential to create stress inside the master control system which can lead to challenges or deflections in the typical function of the brain/body.
While there are many other steps in the process and plan to help our children with challenges it is important we begin with the system that controls all others and I have seen this be a game changer for many children that have been struggling for many years. ~ Dr. Amy
